Happy Daylight Savings! For most of us, today signals the true beginning of spring. Another hour of daylight, which we can use to play a sport, take a walk, work in the garden or maybe meet friends for drinks at an outdoor cafe. Don't forget to make time in your busy life to relax and enjoy it. In this issue, I'm delighted to bring you an excerpt from The New Success Rules for Women and some information on the Bottomless Closet. One will help you help yourself. The other presents an opportunity to help others. Last month, I featured The New Success Rules for Women in one of our Spotlights. This month I invite you to join the author Susan Abrams Wednesday, April 18th from 9 - 10 pm, Eastern for an online chat. Get ready by reading an excerpt from her book. I often seek Adele Riepe’s advice for articles on professional image. I know Adele as an Image Consultant. What I didn’t know is that she regularly donates her time to the Bottomless Closet, an organization that helps women change their lives. In this issue, she shares some inspirational stories. Please feel free to email your suggestions to arichmond@career-intelligence.com. Let me know what you want to see here and we'll try to bring it to you. And, if you know anyone else who'd enjoy reading The Career Intelligencer, please pass it along. It's your life make the most of it :)

The New Success Rules for Women By Susan L. Abrams Self-promote gracefully Self-promotion is a vital facet of communication because it's the area in which you convey to others your capabilities and experience. It is a form of sales, but must be done tastefully, subtly you might say, if you are not in an interview situation. Although self-promotion is a critical piece of success, it's an area that many women find uncomfortable. |

Getting a fresh start at the Bottomless Closet By Adele Riepe March, New York--Deanna Brooks appeared from behind the cheerful pink and yellow plaid curtains of the Bottomless Closet dressing area with a look of wonder on her face. Thirty- seven years old and the single mother of four children, with an 11- and 18 year-old still at home, Brooks is now eager to put her days on public assistance behind her. A student at the College of New Rochelle, Brooks spends five nights a week studying to be a social worker. Her immediate goal is to find a position that will allow her to complete her final three years of study. |
