Editor's Notes

Happy 4th of July! If you're here in the States, you're just getting back to work after a long weekend. Hopefully, you're rested and ready to go.

I'm excited to tell you that two weeks ago we began offering online assessments. Now you can take the Strong Interest Inventory®, TKI and MBTI® from the comfort of your home. You'll receive your results via email. And if you're taking the MBTI your consultation will be done over the phone.

Unless you opt for the MBTI you should have everything you need in a few days to help you plan a career change, understand how you handle conflict, or choose a college major. Please visit our Assessment section for more information.

This issue is packed with information and advice. You can pick up a few tips on what to wear to the office this summer, how to transition from college student to professional and learn how to look like a workaholic without actually being one.

FYI, the results from our Pet-Friendly Poll didn't surprise me, a lover of almost all four-legged creatures. Perhaps this may be because more animal lovers than not took the time to answer. As promised, here are the results:

Does Your Employer allow pets at work?

13% Yes, and I love it!
9% Yes, but, I don't think they should.
45% No, but, I wish they did!
34% No, and I'm glad they don't.

I hope you'll enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Please take a moment to answer this month's Vacation Poll. I'll give you the results in next month's issue.

Thanks again for your continued interest in career-intelligence.com. As always, please contact me directly at arichmond@career-intelligence.com with any thoughts, comments or suggestions.

It's your life, make the most of it :)

Assessing your interests can help you plan your career

By Annette Richmond

Do you want to have a job you enjoy? Well, examining your interests may be the key. Because if you like what you do, you’ll be happier at work. You may be more successful too.

In some cases the choice is obvious - people who like to write become writers, those who like to work on their car often become mechanics. But, for some of us it's not that easy.

How can you know which job you'll enjoy?

One way is to find a job that is in tune with your interests. You can do that by going through some self-assessment or using a career-exploration tool like the Strong Interest Inventory®.

If you're not ready to take an assessment you can begin with self-assessment exercises. For example, people generally prefer to work either with ideas, people or things. The task is discovering your preferred area. Read More

Who Wears Short Shorts? Hopefully no one who is on the job or networking to increase her business, income, or status.

Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts to make your look work appropriate and keep your cool: Read More
