Happy Holidays! Whether you’ll be celebrating the Passover or Easter holidays over the coming weeks, I hope you will make some time to spend with friends and family. When I started career-intelligence.com, I knew it was serious business. But, one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned since our launch is not to take myself too seriously. Over the last six months, I began to spend a little less time on business and a little more time on me. And guess what? Both my personal and professional lives got even better. With this in mind, I want to share one of the things I look forward to each Friday. It’s the weekly Women at Work cartoons by Anne Gibbons. Besides being a lovely person, Anne is a fine artist with a great sense of humor. If you’d like to put a smile in your day subscribe to the weekly cartoons at Cartoon Link. It’s fast, fun and free! This issue is packed with information to support and encourage you. You can pick up some tips on getting ahead in Setting SMART Goals and The Wall. If you’re worried about job security you’ll find some advice on holding your ground in Fireproof Your Job in the New Economy. Whatever your position, you can benefit by reading this issue’s Spotlight, The One Minute Manager. Its simple truths may dramatically change your life whether you supervise 100 people or just yourself. Whether you’re in the process of changing careers or trying to move up where you are, understanding yourself and others will help you get ahead faster. If you’re ready to be more successful, I hope to see you at my MBTI workshop at Norwalk Community College in April. (See Change Your Life below for details.) Please feel free to send your comments or suggestions to me at arichmond@career-intelligence.com. Let me know what you want to see here and I'll try to bring it to you. And, if you know anyone else who'd enjoy reading The Career Intelligencer, please pass it along. It's your life, make the most of it :)

A better way to track your progress By Annette Richmond What is your vision of success? The image is different for each of us. For one person it’s having the corner office, for another it’s having a flexible schedule with plenty of time off to be with their kids. But, whatever your dream, setting goals will help you make it come true. Setting goals is more than making vague statements like, “I will find a new job” or “I will increase my business.” It means creating a written plan that includes reasonable and measurable long-term and short-term objectives. It means setting SMART goals. Lots of coaches and consultants use the SMART acronym to explain goal setting. Each one uses a slightly different set of criteria. In this case, SMART refers to goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Framed. Read More |
