Editor's Notes

Happy Fall! Even though the leaves aren't changing yet according to the calendar Fall has officially arrived. Vacations are over and most associations have resumed their monthly meetings.

Whether you're happy in your current position or looking for a new one, it's time to step up your networking efforts. Just make sure that your efforts are not having a negative impact on the people you are trying to impress (Are You A Negative Networker?).

If you're looking for a new job you're in luck. Any recruiter will tell you that Fall is one of the best job search seasons. Just make sure you're ready. Update your resume (How To Create A Resume That Gets Results) and get ready to knock them dead in the job interview.

To sail through your next job interview make like a girl scout: be prepared. Before you sit down with a potential employer practice answering the questions that every interviewer always asks. You know the ones, they often begin with "Tell me about yourself." (What's Behind The Five Most Difficult Interview Questions?).

Fall is also the perfect time for an image upgrade. After a summer of dressing down, it's also time to take a look at your wardrobe. Spend a day going through your closet. Try to update your wardrobe with a few new pieces (Best Buys For Fall 2005).

Thanks for your continued support, please help us continue to grow by forwarding The Career Intelligencer to your friends and colleagues.

It's your life, make the most of it :)

Attitude Is Everything, 10 Life-Changing Steps To Turning Attitude Into Action

A Is For Attitude

Ever notice how when you feel great good things happen? And when you start the day off badly things often go downhill from there? Well, according to Keith Harrell it's all about your attitude.

In Attitude Is Everything, 10 Life-Changing Steps To Turning Attitude Into Action, Harrell explains how developing a positive attitude changed his life and can change yours too. But, Harrell is more than just a cheerleader. In Attitude Is Everything, Harrell uses real-life examples to demonstrate:

  • The difference a change in attitude can make
  • How to stay positive when things look bleak
  • The importance of surrounding yourself with positive people
  • How to find and develop your passion
  • The value of setting written goals
  • The most effective ways to deal with change
  • How giving back helps you in the end

Over the last few years, I've learned how important it is to have a solid support system. That's probably why one of my favorite chapters is Creating Your A-Team. Here Harrell talks about what makes an A-Team and how you can develop one of your own.

Unlike some motivational speaker/authors who never mention their own flaws, Harrell shares several times when he had to get his own Attitude back on track. His honesty and openness is part of what makes this book such an inspirational read.

Often poignant, never crossing over to preachy, Attitude Is Everything helped me stretch my own emotional muscles. I bet it will do the same for you.

To tell you the truth, there are many interviewers who don't know what they're looking for. They are asking the questions that they read "should" be asked in interviews. Read More

All month you've been looking forward to tonight's event. Several people you'd like to do business with will be there. This should be a great opportunity to make some new connections.

You arrive early with a pocketful of business cards and an armload of brochures fresh from the printer. As people start to arrive you rush over to meet them. You talk for a couple of minutes then ask to exchange business cards. You make sure to hand them one of your brochures before moving on. In the first half-hour you've introduced yourself to ten people. Read More
